Q: Why don't you have a lighting stator for the Yamaha YZ250F/YZ450F?
Good question! We get asked this alot. This is one of the most commonly requested parts for us. We don't have a stator for this bike, although we're in development with one. We may or may not ever bring it to market. This bike is extremely difficult to build a reliable lighting stator for. The stock stator is a very small, 4-pole stator. On the OEM stator, all 4 poles are used to power the ignition system. In order to generate enough output for a lighting system, at least 2 poles are necessary to be free for lighting output. Reducing a 4-pole ignition output to 2-poles, puts a very high load on the 2-poles used for ignition. Heat build up in the new ignition poles will cause unreliability. The problem that usually occurs is failure of the ignition poles on the prototype parts. Some of this can be avoided by using extremely high quality magnet wire on the ignition coils, and a good quality overmold on the metal core to prevent wire tension and excessive wear. As we progress on this part, we may offer one in the future if we are happy with the reliability testing results.
